Frequently Asked Questions

Data Roaming

  • Data roaming allows you to use the internet, apps, WAP, and MMS while you are outside Malaysia, through partner operators in the country you are visiting. This ensures you stay connected even without Wi-Fi access.

  • You should keep data roaming turned ON if you plan to use data overseas with an active pass or roaming plan. This allows you to use apps, maps, messaging, hotspot, and social platforms continuously. To avoid unexpected charges:

    • Always purchase a Data Roam Pass before or upon arrival.
    • Monitor your usage in the Hotlink app.
    • Ensure your phone is connected to a preferred partner network.
    • Avoid using pay-per-use roaming data unless necessary.

Hotlink’s passes allow you to continue using basic roaming data at a reduced speed after your quota is finished, with no extra charges. To check international roaming rates:

    • Open the Hotlink international roaming page.
    • Use the country dropdown.
    • Pick your destination.
    • The page instantly shows all call, SMS, and international data roaming rates.
  • For Hotlink Prepaid customers, data roaming is provisioned by default. Just turn on Data Roaming in your phone settings and buy a roaming pass if needed.

For Hotlink Postpaid customers, you must activate International Roaming.

    How to activate (Postpaid):

    •  Dial *100#
    • Select Intl Roaming
    • Select Country
    • Select Intl Roaming again
    • Turn ON

How to check if it’s activated:

    • You’ll get a confirmation SMS.
    • Dial *100# → Intl Roaming to confirm it shows ON.
    • In the MyHotlink app, roaming will show as active.
    • When overseas, your phone should connect to a partner network and show an R/Roaming icon.

Turn on data roaming in your phone settings (Android/iOS) for it to work.

  • Prepaid customers must have at least RM10 credit to use prepaid roaming features and roaming data. Postpaid users only need to maintain an active line.
